Using the online crime map

This database contains select crimes reported in the towns of Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, Iowa City and Coralville beginning Jan. 1, 2007. North Liberty crime data begins May 1, 2007. Crime information for Cedar Rapids includes crimes reported since Jan. 1, 2006.

Crimes included in the database are assaults, burglaries, robberies, motor vehicle thefts and car burglaries.

The prior week’s reported crimes are updated once per week, typically on Mondays.

Exact addresses are not given for reported assaults or car burglaries. Instead those crimes are rounded to the start of the block where the reports came from.

This map is neither affiliated with any police department, nor Google. The locations of the reported crimes are submitted to The Gazette by area departments and are compiled into a database by The Gazette.

It is important to remember the data is reported crimes, not necessarily crimes in which arrests occur or charges are adjudicated.

Using the search & map

Increasing the number of parameters you include in your search will limit the results.

The address search does not require a complete street address, and can be searched by entering a street name. The search will not match partial block numbers, however, so it’s best to search by street name.

Clicking on the marker will reveal information about what crime was reported in that area.

The zoom in feature is located on the left of the map. Moving the bar upward will zoom in on the map.

You can move to a different area on the map by clicking anywhere on the map and dragging the mouse.

If you want to change the look of the map, try the satellite or hybrid views.
