Ryan Sieck, 25, of Midway, said he decided to back Ron Paul last summer. At the Monroe Township 2 Republican caucus Tuesday night at Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Center near Toddville, he said he’d be happy if Paul came in second or third.
Paul finished third.
“He wants to get rid of the Fed, which is pretty much the cause of all problems,” said Sieck, who’s currently unemployed but plans to “play farmer” next spring.
Sieck said he approves of Paul’s consistent voting record in Congress.
“I talk to friends, and he seems to be the only name that comes up,” Sieck said.
Dave Mooney, 59, of Toddville, was voting for Mitt Romney at a GOP caucus for the second time in four years. Romney won the caucus at Wickiup Hill.
“We’ve always kept our options open, but it’s always headed that way,” said Mooney, who sells crop insurance.
Mooney said the Republicans have many good candidates, and he said he wishes we “could take a little bit of everybody and mix ‘em up.”
“I just think (Romney is) the one best positioned to beat Obama,” Mooney said.
