For ex-pat Iowans home for the holidays and others who are hoping to do a little caucus tourism this week, the opportunities are limited, but growing.
The candidates are returning from Christmas break and haven’t released their full schedules. Here’s what we know:
Rick Santorum is the first in with a trip to a pheasant hunting club near Adel today.
Tuesday the activity starts to pick up. Texas Gov. Rick Perry returns to the stumpings with stops in western Iowa.
Mitt Romney also returns Tuesday to make remarks in Davenport and kick off a three-day bus tour.
Newt Gingrich has a 3-D day with stops in Dubuque, Dyersville and Decorah Tuesday as the former U.S. House speaker kicks off s 44-city bus tour. The day ends with a stop at Mabe’s Pizza in Decorah – no doubt a decision made by his wife, Calista, a Luther College grad.
It will be Wednesday before Texas Rep. Ron Paul gets back to Iowa to make stops at the Iowa Speedway at Newton and elsewhere.
Michele Bachmann also returns to complete the second half of her pre-caucus 99-county tour. Her campaign has released these stats:
Number of counties: 61
Number of counties to go: 38
Number of days: 7
Miles to date: 3,202
Number of bakeries: 8
Number of bowling alleys: 2
Number of Santa supporters: 1
Number of yard signs distributed: 1,500
Quality of voter contact: Priceless
Jon Huntsman remains a stranger to Iowa.
