Mitt Romney will be back on the campaign trail in Iowa Monday, but his advance team arrives today.
Romney’s son, Josh, will be in Marion and Cedar Rapids. At 10:15 a.m., he’ll make a stop at Cindy Golding’s campaign headquarters, 1121 7th Ave., Marion, to join volunteers making phone calls for the Republican running in a special election in Iowa Sena5te 18. She faces Democrat Liz Mathis. If Golding wins, the Senate will be split evenly between Democrats and Republicans.
From there, he’ll join the Linn Eagles, a Republican fundraising club, for lunch at the Cedar Rapids Country Club.
Romney will finish the day at the Republican Party of Iowa Fall Reagan Day Dinner in Des Moines.
It’s not the younger Romney’s first visit to Iowa. He campaigned with his dad in 2007 and rode in RAGBRAI.
The elder Romney will campaign in Dubuque and Scott counties Monday. He’s scheduled to visit a Dubuque metal fabrication shop and a Davenport business later in the day.
Stand by your man: Herman Cain is borrowing from the late country western icon Tammy Wynette in appealing to his supporters to stick with him.
Cain is taking a battering over allegations he sexually harassed a growing number of women. However, he seems to have found a silver lining, has some good news to report.
Under the headline “Herman Cain Supporters Stand by Their Man,” Cain’s spokesman J.D. Gordon reported last night that “Although the Iowa Caucuses are exactly two months away, Cain supporters around the country are already casting their votes – with their wallet.”
In the last three days, they’ve given $1.2 million to the Cain campaign.
Gordon may not want to stick with the Wynette-themed headlines too much longer. She also sang “D-I-V-O-R-C-E.”
