Paul, who has an enthusiastic following at UI – as he does on many college campuses, is scheduled to speak at the Iowa Memorial Union at 8 p.m. Oct. 21.
Beat the bushes: former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum will be beating the bushes for votes and more this weekend. Santorum, who trails most of the 2012 GOP presidential field, will take to the field Sunday morning to hunt pheasants with U.S. Rep. Steve King at the congressman’s annual Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt in Merrill. Day, a former Iowa, is a Medal of Honor recipient.
Every vote counts: Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Republican former two-term governor of New Mexico apparently is stretching the borders of “faith outreach.”
Politico.com reports Johnson, has spent 17 days in Iowa – which is less than one-third as many as Rick Santorum, recently spoke with members of the Pagan Newswire Collective, ModernWitch Podcast and Patheos.com, among others. He said it was important to reach out to voters that fall outside the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths, and slammed his own party for being too beholden to the Christian right.
Johnson is the candidates the “New York media elite” don’t want voters to know about, according to his campaign. He claims to have created more jobs than Romney or Perry, and is proposing a “Fair tax” and wants to cut the federal budget by 43 percent.
